Our brand new, limited edition electric bike and a project that has been four years in the making.
Inspired by the iconic chopper bikes of the 1970s, the TAIPAN brings retro styling into a completely new era. With its long, low cruiser profile and unmistakable chopper influence, it’s unlike anything else on the market.
Behind the old school styling is all the modern electric bike technology you’d expect from Ampd Bros.
Four Years in the Making
The TAIPAN started with an idea to take the character of an iconic 1970s Raleigh chopper bike and reimagine it as a modern electric bike.
That idea turned into four years of development, design, testing and refinement.
The inspiration is easy to spot. The TAIPAN takes cues from the legendary Raleigh Chopper, an icon of the 1970s known for its distinctive shape, laid back riding position and completely unique look.
Rather than simply recreating something from the past, we wanted to take that inspiration and create our own version of what a retro electric bike could look and feel like today.
Retro where it counts, modern where it matters.
Old School Chopper Style. Modern EBike Technology
The TAIPAN might have plenty of ’70s influence, but underneath the retro styling is a seriously capable modern electric bike.
At the heart of the bike is a Bafang rear hub motor delivering 80Nm of torque, paired with a premium 52V 20Ah Samsung 21700 cell battery offering up to 80km of range.
There’s also Ampd Bros Hill Boost, designed to provide additional torque when tackling climbs, along with a 3.5 inch colour display showing your speed, battery level, trip information, ride modes and settings.
Stopping power comes from 2 piston hydraulic brakes with 180mm rotors, while a Shimano Altus 7 speed drivetrain gives you plenty of versatility when cruising.
One Bike. Two Looks
One of our favourite features of the TAIPAN is its modular seat design.
Every TAIPAN comes with two seat options, so you can change up the look of the bike depending on the style you’re going for.
Choose the low back seat for a laid back cruiser profile, or switch to the high back seat for the full retro chopper look.
It’s a simple change that gives the TAIPAN two very different styles.
Made for Cruising
With 20 inch wheels, front suspension and a relaxed cruiser inspired design, the TAIPAN is made for getting out and enjoying the ride.
We’ve also added some practical extras, including a fully adjustable cup holder for the coffee run and a powerful 17W LED headlight with daytime running and low beam functionality.
Connected with the Ampd Bros GO App
The styling might be retro, but the tech definitely isn’t!
The TAIPAN is compatible with the Ampd Bros GO App, bringing a range of connected features straight to your phone.
Depending on your setup, riders can access features including smart security alerts, digital key functionality, parental controls and live GPS tracking.
It’s old school styling paired with the technology behind the latest generation of Ampd Bros electric bikes.
Road Compliant or Off Road. Choose Your Ride!
The TAIPAN is available in two factory built configurations, allowing you to choose the model that suits how you plan to ride.
The 250W Road Compliant model features 250W continuous rated output, pedal assistance limited to 25km/h and a 6km/h throttle walk assist function.
For riders using their bike on private property and other appropriate off road environments, an Off Road model is also available with a different factory configuration.

After four years of development, the TAIPAN is finally here.
From its 1970s chopper inspired silhouette and interchangeable seating through to its Bafang motor, Samsung battery and connected technology, the TAIPAN brings together retro bike design and modern electric performance in a way we haven’t done before.
And because the TAIPAN is a limited edition model, it won’t be around forever.
